daily update with original music and stories, today with rare footage inside Frankfurt's "Jazz Kneipe" with my organ combo "Head Phone" is the name of my funk tune. I played more than 200 gigs here, 5 hour gig from 10PM - 3AM / 22UHR - 3UHR in the center of Frankfurt on the Berlinerstrasse 70 - I think the original location is now Zouzou a high end bar restaurant. This place was known as the trefftpunkt (meeting place) for musicians after their gigs. Small club but a lot happened in there! Regina Snilovič the owner moved to Spain after she closed. Thanks Regina! Dankeschön  for shooting my Canon digital video camera - everybody stay safe out there! -

Jon's daily check in with Music and Stories - today it's the 81st Happy Birthday of  , Happy Healthy Birthday and many more Bernard!
I first met Bernard in March of 1971 when he came to play 3 nights at The Fillmore with Aretha Franklin with all-star band led by King Curtis with the Memphis Horns, Billy Preston organ, Cornell Dupree guitar - then we started working together in the summer of '89 at Mikell's in NYC - here I tell the story - enjoy folks! -
Associated acts Jeff Beck, Hummingbird, Steely Dan, Aretha Franklin, Gil Scott-Heron, King Curtis, The Rolling Stones, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Randy Brecker, Quincy Jones, Hall & Oates, Isaac Hayes, Jon Hammond, Cat Stevens, Hair, Larry Coryell
Purdie was born on June 11, 1939 in Elkton, Maryland, US, the eleventh of fifteen children.[5] At an early age he began hitting cans with sticks and learned the elements of drumming techniques from overhearing lessons being given by Leonard Heywood. He later took lessons from Heywood and played in Heywood's big band. Purdie's other influences at that time were Papa Jo Jones, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Joe Marshall, Art Blakey,[6] as well as Cozy Cole, Sticks Evans, Panama Francis, Louis Bellson, and Herbie Lovelle - etc.!

Organ Meets Bigband in
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany - Leader / Conductor Michael Leuschner / Michael Leuschner (musikalische Leitung) - LaJazzO MV
Das Landesjugendjazzorchester M-V
The State Youth Jazz Orchestra M-V

General

The Landesjugendjazzorchester M-V is a project of the Landesmusikrat M-V e. V. and gives the most talented young jazz musicians in the state an excellent platform for making music together. Interested young musicians between the ages of 14 and 26 have the opportunity here under professional guidance to learn the musical interplay in a jazz orchestra and the basics of improvisation, to develop further with others and to present themselves nationwide.
In a classic big band line-up (5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, rhythm section), a program is worked out every year in two work phases and regular section rehearsals based on a musical theme. An additional deepening is created by accompanying internationally recognized soloists.
The LaJazzO M-V has meanwhile become a musical figurehead for our country and a regular guest at the M-V festival.
The orchestra has served as a springboard for many professional musicians who are successful today.

Country Youth Jazz Orchestra (LaJazzO)
Michael Leuschner (musical director)

The trumpeter and jazz lecturer, who lives in Hamburg, was educated at the University of North Texas. He received the "Bachelor in Jazz Studies" and the "Master in Trumpet Performance" (classical). As a minor, he studied jazz pedagogy and was entrusted with the management of jazz ensembles. Since 1992 he has been a regular guest musician in the NDR Big Band, worked on productions by the Deutsches Schauspielhaus and played film music with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra. He is a co-founder of the Hamburg "Count Pauli Big Band", the trio "Feld Neun" and the concert reading with Christian Brückner: "Prince of Darkness", a homage to Miles Davis's life's work.

Hammond Report June 7 2020 from Pandemic Quarantino Jon Hammond - Music and Stories from Jon, today's story we go over to Frankfurt, Germany where I lived for 2 years and played many times over 30 years - very special friends and this gig for my old freund Hans Romanov the real party meister of Frankfurt night life - we used to play for Hans in the Red Light District at Europe Intim Bar and St. Tropez Bar some of Hans' clubs and then he established Yachtklub on a boat in the heart of Frankfurt - Hans had other boats too, his parties became to large for first boats. This one is big and the sound is very good in the all wood interior of Yachtklub! Check it out, on the band my main guys in Frankfurt Giovanni Totò Gulino drums with his original drums from our many gigs at the old Jazz Kneipe on the Berklinerstrass (I played there more than 200 times), Peter Klohmann is the tenor saxophonist extraordinaire and of course Joe Berger on guitar and yours truly Jon Hammond at the Hammond organ on a beautiful night in Frankfurt - everybody stay safe out there, wear your masks in public folks, the virus is still around! - Jon Hammond Band

Music and Stories from organist accordionist, today's story "Somewhere Over Taipei" Jon goes on a mission to check up on 'Kevin Saxophone', after cause for concern - we played a lot together while living in Frankfurt Germany. Sporadic sightings and unable to contact, first I did research where to find a Hammond organ in Taipei (thanks Shigeyuki Ohtaka! Hooked me up with
at the
) finally contacted Kevin on telephone, but he said he was too busy to come and meet me for coffee in the Starbucks. Thanks very much Super Nico from
and Superlux Team Shannon and Letitia, we all descended on the Jazz Spot Swing organ lounge club and I did my best to swing the house with wonderful pianist musician
and while there visited my friend
and the

pro shop - then I split, so I hope he's OK!
Last night was the big full Strawberry Moon at beginning of this film you'll see it as it appeared on health walk, enjoy and stay safe everybody! - Jon Hammond

T2C: What would you say is the difference of being in self lockdown between NY and LA?
Jon Hammond: In San Francisco it is less dense and pretty quiet, we can hear children playing outdoors, a lot of chalk challenge art on streets & driveways!
T2C: What have you been able to accomplish in this time?
Jon Hammond: Going through a lot of old hard drives, catching up on correspondence and staying on top of the news like a blanket.
T2C: What has this time stopped you from accomplishing?
Jon Hammond: I’m a long-time performer in nursing homes & hospitals, we can no longer deliver the music, and I had annual gigs in Europe canceled for first time in over 30 years.
Summer NAMM Show, Avid Stage, Funk Band, Hammond Organ, Nashville, Outdoor Concert, Horn Section, Rhythm Section, Live Recording
T2C: What kind of emotions does this time bringing out of you?
Jon Hammond: Sad, Nervous, Trouble sleeping, I’m upset in general, not only because of the pandemic, but old yellow hair daily tearing down our beautiful Country and he walked back Civil Rights 60 years at least!
T2C: If you were to equate this time to a song or song cycle what would it be?
Jon Hammond: I wrote a song some years ago to play in annual San Francisco County Jail gig, it is entitled: “Soon I Will Be Free” – sort of apropos during this time as we are waiting out a lot of things.
Jon Hammond
T2C: What message would you like to give the world right now?
Jon Hammond: Be kind, check in on your neighbors folks!

Hammond Report June 5 2020 from Pandemic Quarantino Jon Hammond
Original music and stories from organist accordionist Jon (still) in pandemic quarantino folks! Today's story and music, actual audio from inside San Francisco County Jail #8 "Pod E" one of Jon Hammond Band's 12th annual concerts, you can hear the ladies getting down with "Funky Stuff In Your Pocket" joined in on Jon's tune "Pocket Funk" with drummer Jon Otis and Marc Baum tenor sax - the story of pocket funk. Tonight be sure to watch the skies for the full Strawberry Moon eclipse! Good news, the curfew was lifted last night, so back out on the trail over 12,000 steps on health walking. New camera is on the way from Panasonic, after I accidentally dropped and destroyed my old hard-working Lumixcamera. Next camera will be the Lumix ZS100, it's been out for about 4 years now. Good little camera. Howdy to my friends at B&H Photo Video Pro Audio and thanks Bob Kovacs for his solid expert advice, Bob also uses a ZS100 and he's got the super bad GH5 as well! Have a beautiful weekend and stay safe / well out there everybody - better times ahead! - Jon Hammond
