I brought Bernard "Pretty" Purdie back out to the Bay Area in Oct. of 1998 for the first time since he played with Aretha Franklin at The Fillmore - I also played with both Bernard and Cornell Dupree (gtr.) who was on the all-star band backing Aretha and the Atlantic album - King Curtis, Jerry Jemmott in the bass chair, King Curtis was the leader for those dates, very sadly/tragically he was murdered not long after that.
Do you know who else was at The Fillmore that night that Ray Charles came out (March 7th 1971) and sang & played with Aretha? Danny Glover!
**I had Danny on my radio show and we talked a lot about that night, and he also dug the Chambers Brothers and talks about how Bill Graham was out there dancing and a lot of good stuff
